So what can I say?...

So what can I say... I suck at keeping up on blogs.  Don't let this be of any shock to you. It's no surprise to me, really.  At least you'll know what to expect :-)

So how can I sum things up....  My digestive tract has finally, after 4 or 5 months, decided to be my friend again; thanks for asking.  I can ALMOST eat anything now, however, I will continually boycott rice whenever given the option.  I would not peg Filipino cuisine on the higher echelon of world delicacies, but I have my favorites here and there; such as:
Shwarma - if done right, this can be just as good of a beer munchie as late night Taco Bell.
Halo Halo - this treat varies around the Pines, but here in my town of Sagay it's my favorite treat
Balut - JUST KIDDING!  This is truly nasty stuff.  Duck egg.....yum?

I guess that's it.  Shwarma and Halo Halo.  I could eat that for the next two years and be content :)

Currently I'm in the process of moving into my new apartment.  It's super posh and is by no means the standard by which PCVs are expected to live.  I decided, for the sake of my happiness and sanity, to spend the extra savings for a much nicer place.  A much SAFER place.  That's one thing you'll notice about houses in the Philippines.  For those who are 'wealthy' enough, they will barricade their house with high concrete walls, glass shards, barbed wire, and my favorite: vicious guard dogs.  Nothing says, "Welcome to my home" better than that!  So my new place with entail all of the above :)

I'm Also looking forward to cooking my own food again.  Although the chicken looks suspect at times, I will enjoy mixin' up a good stir fry here and there.  And the vegetables!  Holy crap the vegetables!  Filipino cuisine rarely consist of vegetables.  It's a rarity and a welcome treat if you're lucky enough to be served a dish that has any.

So what can I say about the culture?....hmmm.... perhaps I should save that bit for a time when I have something more positive to say.  So I guess that's all for now.  I'll try to update this when I get settled into my new place, but don't hold your breath.  You know how I am about these things.

Ta ta for now.  TTFN!
